Most of the website owners claiming that the use of Really Simple Syndication (RSS) has Really Simply Stopped. This type of communication application was once very popular. But now it seems to be dying as more social & user friendly ways of getting feeds unexpectedly. It is common idea to all that technology is dynamic .The question that asks humbly for an answer is whether RSS is going through the death phase in its life-cycle, or nor it is an immortal technology that is becoming older gracefully.
RSS is the basis of
news and syndication network
Most of the analysts share
their opinion on the RSS debate & argued that RSS can never die as it is
the force behind the technology who want to destroy this system. A lot of commentators
argued that RSS is the backbone of news feeds from the major social media
networks. Applications like as Twitter-feed are credited with automatically
delivering feeds to Twitter network, is based on the RSS technology. A lot of
people use Google Reader, but RSS was the only first technology to make
syndication of information easy.
RSS makes easy of
internet applications
Others have acknowledged
that RSS may power to all these applications, but it can’t be compared with
them. RSS was isolated & as well as lonely; it was never friendly to its
users. Most of the people used it simply because they had to, not because they
loved to or wanted to use it. There are several people who still use this application,
but most of them use it for their professional purposes.
Technology is complimenting
RSS
The technology that has
been used of replacing it however is dynamic and interactive. Technology as
like, Twitter-feed does not isolate the user sharing, but instead includes them
in a community where information is not only syndicated, but also it is shared
among friends and family. This difference what indicates that such applications
turn away from RSS because these applications appear more ‘alive’. On the other
hand, most of the analysts argued that RSS is not dead because this technology
was never really alive.
Use of RSS has
declined
According to some statistics,
the use of RSS has dropped by more than 68% since its inception, even though
this application has been accumulated in all the major browsers like Mozilla
Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer.etc. as usual.
However, those people who
are against the notion of RSS, it argues that RSS usability is the same still
now or it has increased. Their argument is all about broadcasting information with
the help of syndication, but not about feeds. Therefore, the numbers of feeders
is declining, but the use of RSS for what it was actually developed for, which
is the broadcast any information in a simplified manner, is yet to decline. The
only one most difference is that the platform has changed and the way that
people access & use this application is different as well.
Is RSS out of this
period of technologies?
Theorist of the ‘RSS is dead’ mantra argue that all
technology goes throughout to a similar phase, when any specific technology is
phased out, the aspects were good and useful about it are retained and used to
develop greater and even more user friendly application. So to say, RSS forms
the backbone of some of the main syndication applications nowadays, but this is
the similarities end as one application is very different from the others.
Though, anyone can conclude
that RSS is no longer being used as a mainstream application by individuals,
but it is still now used by several professionals and companies. Although,
previously this application was not user friendly, but it simplified
syndication of information. There are people who want to get updates on various
topics through websites and blogs, they may use RSS feeds.
What is about RSS users?
RSS users have also
affected search results on search
engines such as Yahoo
or Google in the past, they basically stealing the original content
by importing their own RSS onto another website, as a result in search engine’s
algorithms ranking high with such websites with the original content. This
concept is developed by Google engineers,
who are trying to deal with, but it would not have been possible if RSS was
dead.
Will RSS die?
RSS will never die, but it
will continue to update behind the curtains to power some of the recent
syndication applications. Most probably, it will never be as popular as it was
to the public, but it will always use indirectly whenever anyone use social
media networks or
other information sharing networks and websites.
What do you think about RSS Feeds? Is RSS really died?
